VOTING IN TEXAS
Everything you need to know to vote in Texas.
ELIGIBILITY & REGISTRATION
Deadline
Must register 30 days before Election Day.
How to register
- Register by mail
- Register in-person with a Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar (VDVR)
Important
Texas does NOT have online voter registration. If you start the process online, you must print out the application and mail it in.
Check your registration status votetexas.govMILITARY & OVERSEAS VOTERS
Complete the Federal Postcard Application (FPCA).
Receive your ballot, or use the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot (FWAB).
Return your marked ballot by Election Day, or the 5th day after voting from overseas.
ID REQUIREMENTS
Bring ONE of the following approved forms of photo identification:
- Texas Driver License
- Texas Personal ID Card
- Texas Handgun License
- U.S. Passport
- Military ID
- Texas Election Identification Certificate
VOTING BY MAIL
You may vote by mail in Texas if you are:
- 65 years or older on Election Day
- Sick or disabled
- Expecting to give birth within 3 weeks before or after Election Day
- Out of the county on Election Day and during early voting by personal appearance
- Confined in jail, but otherwise eligible to vote
Upcoming Statewide Elections
Early voting runs from 17 days before each election through 4 days before Election Day.
BECOME A POLL WORKER IN TEXAS
To serve, you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be 18 years or older
- Be a qualified voter in the county where the election is being conducted
16 or 17? High school students can serve as Student Election Clerks with parent and principal consent.
